Rhubarb Margarita Wine: A Refreshing and Tangy Homemade Wine Recipe
Rhubarb Margarita Wine is a delicious and refreshing homemade wine that is perfect for enjoying on a warm summer day. This wine is made with fresh rhubarb, lime juice, and tequila, and it has a beautiful pink color and a tart, tangy flavor. It's also relatively easy to make, so even if you're a beginner winemaker, you can still enjoy this delicious wine.
Ingredients:
- 5 pounds rhubarb, chopped
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup lime juice
- 1 bottle (750 ml) tequila
- 1 gallon water
- 1 teaspoon wine yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon yeast nutrient
- 1/4 teaspoon potassium sorbate (optional)
Instructions:
- In a large pot, combine the rhubarb, sugar, lime juice, and water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes, or until the rhubarb is soft.
- Strain the rhubarb mixture through a cheesecloth-lined colander into a clean pot. Discard the solids.
- Add the tequila, wine yeast, and yeast nutrient to the rhubarb juice. Stir until the yeast is dissolved.
- Cover the pot with a lid and let it ferment in a warm place for 10 days. Stir the mixture once or twice a day.
- After 10 days, strain the wine through a cheesecloth-lined colander into a clean container. Discard the sediment.
- (Optional) Add the potassium sorbate to the wine. This will help to prevent spoilage.
- Bottle the wine and let it age for at least 2 weeks before drinking.
Tips:
- For a sweeter wine, add more sugar. For a tarter wine, add less sugar.
- You can use any type of tequila you like. However, a blanco or reposado tequila will work best.
- If you don't have a cheesecloth, you can also use a coffee filter to strain the wine.
- Be sure to let the wine ferment for the full 10 days. This will ensure that the yeast has enough time to convert the sugar into alcohol.
- The wine will continue to improve in flavor as it ages. So, if you can, let it age for longer than 2 weeks before drinking.
Enjoy!
