As seasoned travelers who have explored dozens of countries and hundreds of cities around the world, we've had our fair share of incredible experiences meeting locals. However, we've also encountered some not-so-great experiences in certain places. Based on our firsthand observations and interactions, here are the five countries that we found to be the most unfriendly towards tourists.
1. Russia
Russia, unfortunately, tops our list of unfriendly countries. While the country boasts stunning architecture and rich history, the overall experience for tourists can be challenging. The language barrier is significant, as English is not widely spoken, making communication difficult. Additionally, the bureaucracy and visa requirements can be quite cumbersome, often leaving visitors feeling frustrated and unwelcome.
2. Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia is another country where tourists may face a challenging experience. The strict religious laws and cultural norms can be overwhelming for visitors, particularly those accustomed to more liberal societies. Women, in particular, may feel restricted and uncomfortable due to the strict dress code and limited freedom of movement.
3. North Korea

4. Somalia
Somalia, unfortunately, has a reputation for being a dangerous and unstable country. The ongoing civil conflicts and security concerns make it a challenging destination for tourists. 5. Afghanistan
Afghanistan, similar to Somalia, faces significant security challenges. The ongoing conflicts and political instability make it an extremely dangerous destination for tourists.
