Amelia Earhart, among other records, was the first woman pilot to fly across the Atlantic Ocean alone. She was born July 24, 1897, and was known as a bit of a "tomboy." Interestingly, she was not impressed by airplanes when she first saw them. That would change when while visiting a friend she attended a flying exhibition. That is where she fell in love with flying and started her journey toward making history.
