Apple Crisp: A Sweet and Simple Fall Dessert

Apple crisp is a classic fall dessert that is perfect for Thanksgiving or Christmas. It's a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that the whole family will love. This apple crisp recipe features a sweet cinnamon apple filling topped with a crunchy oat crumble topping. It's the perfect combination of flavors and textures.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups peeled, cored, and sliced apples (about 6 medium apples)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss to coat.
  3. Pour the apple mixture into a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  4. In a medium bowl, combine the oats, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt. Stir until combined.
  5. Add the melted butter to the oat mixture and stir until combined. The mixture should be crumbly.
  6. Sprinkle the oat mixture over the apple mixture in the baking dish.
  7. Dot the top of the oat mixture with the cold butter pieces.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
  9. Let cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.

Tips

  • To peel, core, and slice the apples quickly and easily, use an apple peeler and corer.
  • If you don't have an apple peeler and corer, you can peel the apples with a vegetable peeler and then use a sharp knife to core and slice them.
  • You can use any type of apples you like for this recipe. I like to use a combination of tart and sweet apples, such as Granny Smith and Honeycrisp.
  • If you don't have old-fashioned rolled oats, you can use quick oats, but the texture of the topping will be slightly different.
  • You can add 1/2 cup of chopped nuts, such as pecans or walnuts, to the oat mixture for extra flavor.
  • Serve apple crisp warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of custard.

Enjoy!
