In Honolulu, Hawaii on August 4, 1961, Barack Obama was born. He was named after his father, making him Barack Obama, Jr. He briefly lived in Indonesia with his mother, Ann Dunham, but moved back to Hawaii to live with his grandparents.
He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1988 and a year later he joined Sidley Austin, a law firm in Chicago. While there, he met Michelle Robinson. They married on October 3, 1992, and now she goes by Michelle Obama. While in Chicago, Barack Obama was a civil rights lawyer and a teacher. He taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School.
In 1996, Barack Obama became Senator Obama for the state of Illinois. In 2004 he became a United States Senator for Illinois. In 2009, he became the 44th President of the United States of America. He was the first African American person to hold this office.
