Brave Irene, written and illustrated by William Steig, is a story about Irene Bobbin. Her mother is a dressmaker who feels ill the night of an important ball. She cannot deliver the duchess’s dress that she made, so Irene travels to help her mother by delivering the dress for her.

The narrator, Al Gore, is an American politician. He served as the 45th vice president of the United States under Bill Clinton from 1993 to 2001. He ran for president as the Democratic nominee in 2000 but lost to George W. Bush in one of the closest presidential elections in American history. Gore has won numerous prestigious awards, such as the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, the 2007 Primetime Emmy Award for Current TV, and the 2009 Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album. Currently, he is an environmentalist advocating to counteract climate change.

Author and illustrator William Steig was an American author, illustrator, and cartoonist. He is best known for his children’s picture book, Shrek!, which was used as an inspiration for the Shrek film series. He was called the “King of Cartoons” for his extensive work within The New Yorker, as well as his long list of published work. He passed away on October 3, 2003, at 95 years old.
