Crossover Brain Break Song

Crossover is a fun brain break song that is all about cross-lateral movements. Cross-lateral movements are motions that cross the midline. The mid-line is an imaginary line that runs down the middle of the body, dividing the body into right and left halves. When students perform cross-lateral motions, the left and right sides of the brain are forced to communicate thus, strengthening the pathways. Brain breaks should be fun and movement-oriented. This song, also gets children to use their brain to concentrate and use different parts of their body to cross the mid-line.

This song tells students which part of the body to crossover from right to left and left to right. It’s very easy for kids of all ages to do in the classroom. When we engage children in crossover movements blood flow is increased in all parts of the brain making it more alert and energized for optimal learning. Use this song as a great musical brain break activity for stimulating the brain and body. The lyrics are below the video.

Lyrics

Right hand to your left shoulder
Left hand to your right
Crossover, crossover everyday
Crossover will build your body and brain

Right hand to your left knee
Left hand to the right
Crossover, crossover everyday
Crossover will build your body and brain

Right hand to the left elbow
Left hand to the right
Crossover, crossover everyday
Crossover will build your body and brain

Crossover as you walk
Arms left then to the right
Crossover as you stretch
Reach out side to side
Crossover, as you move
Twist left then to the right
Crossover builds your body and brain
And helps you read and write

Right hand to your left ear
Left hand to the right
Crossover, crossover everyday
Crossover will build your body and brain

Right hand to your left foot
Left hand to your right
Crossover, crossover everyday
Crossover will build your body and brain

Right hand to your friend’s right
Left hand to their left
Crossover, crossover everyday
Crossover will build your body and brain

Crossover as you walk
Arms left then to the right
Crossover as you stretch
Reach out side to side
Crossover, as you move
Twist left then to the right
Crossover builds your body and brain
And helps you read and write
