DIY Sheeta’s Headband, Belt, and Hair Ties from Castle in the Sky

Calling all Studio Ghibli fans! This project will guide you through making Sheeta’s iconic headband, belt, and hair ties from the beloved animated film, Castle in the Sky. It’s a fun and creative way to bring a beloved character to life through DIY crafts.

Materials You’ll Need:

  • Blue felt (for headband and belt)
  • Gold fabric (for headband trim and belt buckle)
  • Brown yarn (for hair ties)
  • Scissors
  • Sewing needle and thread (or fabric glue)
  • Measuring tape
  • Safety pin (for attaching belt)

Instructions:

1. Making the Headband:

  1. Measure the circumference of your head and add an extra inch for overlap.
  2. Cut a strip of blue felt to the measured length and about 2 inches wide.
  3. Cut a strip of gold fabric slightly shorter than the blue felt, about 1 inch wide. This will be the trim.
  4. Sew or glue the gold fabric onto the edge of the blue felt, leaving about half an inch of felt exposed on each end.
  5. Overlap the ends of the blue felt and sew or glue them together to form a loop.

2. Making the Belt:

  1. Measure your waist and add an extra inch for overlap.
  2. Cut a strip of blue felt to the measured length and about 2 inches wide.
  3. Cut a rectangle of gold fabric, about 2 inches by 3 inches. This will be the buckle.
  4. Sew or glue the gold fabric onto one end of the blue felt, leaving about half an inch of felt exposed. Make sure the buckle is centered on the felt.
  5. Fold over the exposed felt and sew or glue it down to secure the buckle.
  6. Overlap the ends of the blue felt and sew or glue them together to form a loop.
  7. Attach a safety pin to the end of the belt for easy fastening.

3. Making the Hair Ties:

  1. Cut two lengths of brown yarn, about 18 inches long.
  2. Fold each length of yarn in half and tie a knot at the folded end.
  3. You can now use these as hair ties, tying them around your hair in a ponytail or bun.

Tips:

  • If you don’t have felt or gold fabric, you can use any other fabric you like. Just be sure to choose fabrics that are sturdy enough to hold their shape.
  • For a more polished look, you can use a sewing machine to sew the pieces together.
  • To make the hair ties even more Sheeta-like, you can add a small piece of gold fabric to the middle of each hair tie.

Now you have your own set of Sheeta’s headband, belt, and hair ties! You can wear them to a Studio Ghibli movie marathon, a cosplay event, or just for fun. Enjoy!
