How to Sew an Oversized Hoodie Blanket: A Cozy DIY Project

Instructions:

1. Cut the Fabric

  1. For the blanket, cut two rectangles of fleece fabric measuring 60 inches by 80 inches.
  2. For the hood, cut a semicircle of fleece fabric with a diameter of 24 inches.
  3. Cut two strips of fleece fabric measuring 6 inches by 30 inches for the ties.

2. Sew the Blanket

  1. Place the two blanket rectangles right sides together.
  2. Pin around the edges, leaving a 1/2 inch seam allowance.
  3. Sew around the perimeter of the blanket, leaving an opening for turning.
  4. Turn the blanket right side out and press the seams flat.
  5. Hand-stitch the opening closed.

3. Sew the Hood

  1. Fold the semicircle of fabric in half, right sides together.
  2. Pin along the curved edge, leaving a 1/2 inch seam allowance.
  3. Sew along the curved edge, leaving an opening for turning.
  4. Turn the hood right side out and press the seams flat.
  5. Hand-stitch the opening closed.
  6. Fold the hood in half again, and sew the straight edge of the hood to the top edge of the blanket, leaving a 1/2 inch seam allowance. Make sure the right sides of the fabric are facing each other.

4. Attach the Ties

  1. Fold the tie strips in half lengthwise and press.
  2. Sew along the raw edges of the ties, leaving a 1/4 inch seam allowance.
  3. Turn the ties right side out and press.
  4. Pin the ties to the inside of the hood, one on each side, about 6 inches from the center.
  5. Sew the ties in place.
