Did you know that today is National Limerick Day? In honor of this poetic holiday, we decided to share one of our favorite limerick videos. This video, featuring two puppets, provides many examples for students. They also break down the structure and rhyming pattern of limericks. They explain that lines 1, 2, and 5 have 7-10 syllables, while the 3rd and 4th lines are a bit shorter with only 5-7 syllables. Similarly, the longer lines (1, 2, and 5) all rhyme, and the shorter lines (3 and 4) also rhyme. Check out the limericks in this video to inspire your students to write one of their own.
