Addition and subtraction centers are a great way to engage 1st and 2nd graders in math. For example, while playing this game, kids use blocks to make the math problem correct.
The game starts with the teacher giving an addition or subtraction problem. The students then take turns rolling two dice before moving the number of blocks they want to solve for the problem. Once all children have had a turn, they must solve their problems by adding or subtracting what blocks they rolled. When they get to the other side, they can't go back! The winner is the one who has made it across first with no unsolved problems!
This game will not only help you teach your students math skills, but it will also promote teamwork and cooperation. Your students will be actively engaged because there are so many ways for them to play! It's so much fun that you might have trouble getting them away from it.
