Michael Jordan

This video is a fun, fast-paced biography of Michael Jordan. The drawing animations are entertaining for kids to watch. The whiteboard style is relatable and might inspire your students to create some whiteboard art themselves.

The video opens with him being born on February 17, 1963, in Brooklyn, New York. He is the 4th of 5 siblings. He grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina. He had a passion for basketball at 13 when his father built the family a basketball court in their backyard. In high school, he played basketball, football, and baseball.

1981 he started playing for the University of Noth Carolina. He was awarded a scholarship for basketball. In 1984 he was chosen as College Player of the Year. That same year, he played for basketball in the Olympics for the US team, bringing home the gold.

Later in 1984, the Chicago Bulls would pick him in the draft. He would remain with the Bulls for most of his career in the NBA. During his first season, he won Rookie of the Year.

During his legendary career, he won 6 NBA tournaments and became the greatest scoring leader during 10 seasons. He was awarded Best Player 5 times during the regular season and 6 times in the finals.

Michael Jordan is 1.98 meters or 6 feet 6 inches tall. He was known for being able to jump. He would jump so high it would look like he was floating in the air. That is how he got his nickname Air Jordan. You may also recognize that name from his shoes.

In 1992 Jordan went to the Olympics for the second time. This was the first time professional basketball players were allowed to compete. Again he brought home the gold. That team was considered the best team to ever play the sport. They were nicknamed the Dream Team.

In 1993, after his father was killed, Jordan decided he needed a change. He quit basketball and tried baseball. He played for the Chicago White Sox until 1995 when he returned to basketball where he was much better suited. He continued to play for the Chicago Bulls until he retired in 1999. In 1996 he was the star of the box office hit, Space Jam alongside the Looney Tunes.

In 2000 he would return to the NBA, but not as a player this time. Rather he became the president of the Washington Wizards. He soon realized, however, that he missed playing the game he loved so much. So, he returned to the NBA as a player.

The 2002-2003 season would be his last in the NBA. He continued to play basketball for charity tournaments and for fun. He never lost his love for the game. In 2010 he bought his own team, the Charlotte Bobcats, renamed to the Charlotte Hornets. Michael Jordan remains one of the greatest to ever play the game.
