the slow mo guys: axe through a deodorant can experiment

have you ever wondered why deodorant cans have a 'do not pierce' warning on them? the slow mo guys, gav and dan, decided to find out in a highly fragrant episode. they took an axe and sliced through a deodorant can, all while dressed as a team fortress 2 character. the experiment was shot at 2500fps and 5000fps using a phantom flex high-speed camera, giving us a slow-motion look at the explosive results.

in the video, gav and dan show us the can before the experiment, and then they pop it down and give us a sweet surprise. they warn us not to try this at home, but we can still enjoy the slow-motion footage. the axe slices through the can, and the deodorant spray fills the air. the can is split in half, and the top half disappears, leaving only the bottom half behind.

the slow mo guys then show us the aftermath of the experiment. the can is split in half, and the deodorant spray has filled the air. they can't find the top half of the can, but they do find a bit of the old can. they wonder where the top half went, but they're happy with the results.

the experiment was a success, and we learned why deodorant cans have a 'do not pierce' warning on them. the slow mo guys have given us a fun and educational look at the science behind deodorant cans. if you're interested in learning more about the science behind everyday objects, check out these links:
