Turkey Yoga for Kids: Fun & Relaxing Thanksgiving Brain Break

Thanksgiving is a time for family, friends, and delicious food. But it can also be a time for a little bit of chaos! This yoga session is designed for kids and uses turkey-themed poses and stretches to promote relaxation and laughter. It’s a great activity for classrooms, families, or anyone looking for a fun and engaging way to celebrate Thanksgiving.

Why Yoga for Kids?

Yoga is a wonderful activity for kids of all ages. It can help them to:

  • Improve flexibility and balance
  • Increase strength and coordination
  • Reduce stress and anxiety
  • Boost self-esteem and confidence
  • Develop focus and concentration

Getting Started:

Before you begin, find a comfortable space where you can move around freely. You may want to put on some relaxing music or nature sounds to set the mood.

Turkey Yoga Poses:

Here are some fun turkey-themed poses for kids to try:

1. Turkey Trot (Mountain Pose):

Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart and your arms by your sides. Imagine you’re a turkey strutting around, proud and confident. Take deep breaths and hold for a few seconds.

2. Gobbling Gobble (Forward Fold):

From Mountain Pose, bend at your hips and reach your hands down towards the floor. Keep your back straight and your knees slightly bent. Imagine you’re a turkey gobbling up some delicious food. Hold for a few breaths.

3. Turkey Tail (Downward Facing Dog):

From Forward Fold, step back with your feet and lift your hips up towards the ceiling. Your body should form an upside-down V shape. Imagine you’re a turkey stretching out its tail feathers. Hold for a few breaths.

4. Wing Flap (Child’s Pose):

From Downward Facing Dog, bring your knees to your chest and rest your forehead on the floor. Imagine you’re a turkey flapping its wings and getting ready for a nap. Hold for a few breaths.

5. Turkey Beak (Triangle Pose):

Stand with your feet wide apart and turn your right foot out 90 degrees. Reach your right arm up towards the sky and bend your left arm down towards your leg. Imagine you’re a turkey with a long beak. Hold for a few breaths, then repeat on the other side.

6. Turkey Feathers (Warrior II):

Stand with your feet wide apart and turn your right foot out 90 degrees. Bend your right knee and bring your right arm forward, parallel to the floor. Extend your left arm back behind you, parallel to the floor. Imagine you’re a turkey spreading its wings. Hold for a few breaths, then repeat on the other side.

7. Turkey Nest (Corpse Pose):

Lie on your back with your arms by your sides and your palms facing up. Close your eyes and relax your whole body. Imagine you’re a turkey resting comfortably in its nest. Hold for a few minutes.
