What Exactly Are Fossils?

This process of fossil formation is closely tied to something called the rock cycle. The Earth's crust is constantly changing and reforming through a cycle of weathering, erosion, heat, and pressure. Fossils are most commonly found in a type of rock called sedimentary rock, which forms from layers of sediment that build up over time.
What Can We Learn from Fossils?
Fossils are like puzzle pieces that help us understand:

You might be surprised to learn that fossils aren't just found in museums! They can be discovered all over the world, sometimes in unexpected places. Keep your eyes peeled when you're exploring rocky areas, cliffs, and even construction sites – you never know what you might find!
