A great activity you can do with students is to have them read a piece from Poe, write a summary or have a class discussion about the piece and the author. Then have students watch this video and see if their thoughts change. Does knowing more about the author's life make them like the piece more or less? Does it change their opinions at all? You can apply this to their lives by connecting it to modern pieces, they could be books, film, tv, journalism, and reporting. It is up to you how far you want to take this concept.
